Hello origami lovers,

I’m excited to share that my latest origami model is complete! the Origami Hot Air Balloon. With spring approaching and warmer weather on the way, I wanted to create something colorful, dimensional, and uplifting for this origami ASMR video. I don’t know why, but just seeing hot air balloons makes me feel so joyful, and I hope these paper creations bring that same feeling to you.

This origami hot air balloon was folded from a 4.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper. I recently ran out of traditional origami paper, which turned out to be the perfect opportunity to experiment with construction paper. While I normally prefer folding with thin origami paper, the thicker construction paper created deeper, slightly crunchy ASMR sounds that add a unique sensory element to the folding process.

In this origami ASMR short, I focus on the rhythmic folding, the textured creases, and the dimensional shaping that transforms flat paper into a sculptural form. The original design concept used a small masu box as the base. However, I felt that structure made the balloon resemble a lightbulb more than a hot air balloon. After refining the design, I replaced it with a spider box base, which gave the model better balance and proportion.

As an origami artist, I enjoy exploring how small adjustments in structure can dramatically change the final result. This Origami Hot Air Balloon ASMR video is part of my ongoing paper art journey, where I combine origami, dimensional paper design, and calming sensory experiences.

So I think I’ve unintentionally started an origami love micro-series on YouTube. First it was origami hearts. Then origami flowers. And now… an origami love box ASMR video. I didn’t plan it that way, but I love when themes naturally form in my work. And hell, it is February after all. Valentines Day month!

The Origami Love Box (No Glue, No Cuts)

This particular origami love box is such a satisfying model. It’s surrounded by folded hearts and created from a square sheet of paper, no glue, no tape, no cuts, just pure origami technique.
The original designer is Jo Nakashima, whose work has inspired so many paper artists (myself included). If you’ve seen some of my origami jewelry designs, you’ll probably notice how much I admire artists like Jo Nakashima, Akira Yoshizawa, and Robert Neale. Their influence shows up in the precision and structure I aim for in my own folds. As an origami artist, I’m always inspired by masters of the craft.

A Mama Perspective on Folding

As a mama of two little ones, I love creating functional origami pieces, especially boxes. It’s so satisfying to fold something beautiful but can also help keep tiny treasures organized. Sometimes I wish craft stores carried industrial sized paper. I’m talking paper so large you’d need a truck to haul it home. Can you imagine the size of those origami boxes? Or better yet, an origami dragon or pony big enough for the kids to ride? Now that would be epic.

Is This a Tutorial?

Since this is an origami ASMR YouTube Short, it’s not a full step by step tutorial. There are cuts. There are transitions. Some folds happen off camera. The difficulty level of this origami love box is about a 2 out of 5, so experienced folders might be able to follow along. But if you’re brand new to origami, you’ll want to look up a detailed tutorial to learn the structure first. My short is more about the experience, the sound of paper folding, the crisp creases, the rhythm of shaping something from a square sheet. You can totally try folding along though. Or you can just relax and enjoy the process on a rainy day.

Why I’m Exploring Origami ASMR

I’m still new to creating origami ASMR videos on YouTube, but I’m really enjoying this direction.
As an origami artist who creates both large scale paper sculptures for gallery exhibitions and delicate origami jewelry for vendor events, I’m used to sharing finished pieces. ASMR lets me share the process. The small sounds, the quiet focus, the calm repetition. I’ll be creating longer origami ASMR videos soon, ones that are easier to follow than my Shorts while still keeping that relaxing, immersive feel. My hope is that these videos either calm you, inspire you, or maybe even give you those little ASMR tingles.
